Caring for Your Crystals

Once they’ve been extracted from the Earth, crystals pick up energy from all the places and hands they pass through on their way up to you. It is beneficial to cleanse new crystals and repeat as needed. Your jewelry has been cleansed with sound, smoke, and loving intention just prior to being shipped.

  • Intention

Cleansing is about intention. Your stones will respond to your intention to release stored energy, regardless of the method you choose. Some find intention alone sufficient.

  • Crystal Cleansing

Cleansing works for both jewelry and specimens. Work with your stones until you find what feels right for you. Remember, your jewelry is made up of more than stone, so please keep it dry.

Cleansing Techniques

The following methods are listed by their effectiveness and safety for crystals, starting with the most commonly used and beneficial, and moving to those that require more caution.

  • Sound

Om chanting, bells & singing bowls: Surround your stones with sound.

  • Smudging & Incense

'Wash' your crystals in the smoke of herbal smudges or incense for 30 seconds.

  • Moonlight

Full Moon energy can cleanse & clear: Place in the light of the moon.

  • Sunlight

Use the power of the morning sun: place in a window for 4-6 hrs.

  • Crystals

Use Selenite and Clear Quartz to cleanse your crystals.

  • Water

Running water washes away negative energy: Fresh river, lake or faucet.

  • Salt

Submerge your crystals in a bowl of dry, natural salt for several hours or overnight to cleanse them.

  • Earth

Wrap & bury your crystals for up to 7 days in the earth to cleanse.

  • Breath

Let your breath cleanse and clear: Blow air over your crystals with intent.

⚠️ IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER ⚠️

Certain crystals, especially those with a Mohs hardness of 5 or lower, should not be exposed to water, sunlight, or salt as they can be damaged.

For example, Selenite, which has a Mohs hardness of 2, can dissolve in water and fade in sunlight. Always check the hardness and properties of your crystals before choosing a cleansing method.

Mohs Hardness Scale

The Mohs Hardness Scale is used to determine the hardness of minerals. It ranges from 1 (softest) to 10 (hardest). Crystals with a lower number are softer and more prone to scratching and damage. For example, minerals like Talc (1) can be scratched by a fingernail, while harder minerals like Quartz (7) require a steel nail to be scratched. Refer to the Mohs Hardness Scale below to determine the hardness of your crystals and ensure you’re using a safe method for each type.
